8 weeks old

The babies are another week older. They are 8 weeks old (or 36 gestational weeks). They had another incredible week.

Adalyn went to nasal prongs again and stayed on them this time. Then today she went off her prongs altogether! Hopefully she will be able to keep them off. She is working on her bottle feeding but still needs about 1/2 her feed in the feeding tube. She is getting closer to taking her full bottle though. Adalyn's total biliruben number is high which means her bile is backing up a little bit (this is about all I know). Her doctor thought it could be caused by a small duct near her gall bladder but her ultrasound came back normal. They are not sure what is causing this, but they will repeat the blood work tomorrow to see if it has resolved itself.

Mid-week they told me the girls were going to be transferred to Rockeyview hospital. My heart sank because we really love the amazing nurses at Foothills. Fortunately the doctor at Rockeyview (who does rotations at Foothills) did not want to move Adalyn while she is on isolation. So I think we'll be staying put!

Alivia stayed on her prongs all week and has done really well. Yesterday afternoon they took her prongs off and she has done pretty well. She had 3 brady cardias this morning (when her heart rate drops) so there could be a chance that she would go back on the prongs if this continues. She is taking full bottles for most of her feeds. The doctor told me that the plan is/was to send Alivia home at the end of this week. However, when a baby has a brady she then has to stay for 5 more days. She also needs to eat full bottles with no feeding tube for 48 hours which she isn't quite doing yet. But we are getting very close to having her come home. I am sure Adalyn won't be too far behind her.

Last night they moved Adalyn right next to Alivia... well there is a counter between them. Aden and I got them out of their beds and brought them close together. This was their first real look of each other. It was so weird having them right next to each other. I feel like I have my world with Alivia and my world with Adalyn so when they were side by side it hit me that I actually have 2 babies who will be able to be together in a short amount of time. The girls couldn't touch because of isolation but I wanted to have them hold hands. Oh, and in the bottom pic, Alivia's nostrils are big because she just had her O2 tubes taken out not long before that but they will go back to normal soon. Her nose doesn't actually look like that.

Aden and I are scrambling to get everything ready at home. These little girlies are going to be here before we know it!!

My heart is so happy! I cannot wait until your stress in life is down to just balancing two busy little babies. And when they can be together again! I'm SO glad they are doing so well. My Sedona (you know, Brigham's "fiancee") told me last night that she prays for A & A every night. The girls were all SO happy to hear they are doing well!! YAYAYAYAYAYAY!

Oh it is so great to see the growth and progress they've made...and they'll be coming home soon! That is awesome! I'm so glad you've taken such great pictures and journaled their journey in the NICU. I was a NICU baby and I know next to nothing about my journey and have only 2 really dark BAD pictures of me in the NICU. You and your girls will be so glad you've documented all of this!

My oh my they are growing! I'm sure they are still super tiny, but I can definitely see them changing. I am so happy that they are doing well! Still sending prayers your way that everyone will be strong and healthy enough to go home soon!
